Developments in new/digital media mean that audiences can now have access to a greater variety of views and values. To what extent are audiences empowered by these developments?

Intro:  Media controlling all the news. Talk about question

Paragraph 2 - Digital divide between modern and older generation – consume media through 

different ways. Modern- Social networking sites (twitter, Facebook, reddit) television, news websites. Old- Newspaper > younger kids are brain washed hypodermic needle theory.  Traditional media dying

Paragraph 3 – Apple privacy concerns with new Facebook messenger app. Facebook spying on users through front facing camera – moral panic. Fastest selling movie phone and most stolen. – record breaking pre orders

Paragraph 4 – Twitter user generated content helps get their views across to followers. Following celebrity’s views and values-role models Exclusive news instant on twitter – nearby missing people in area – 14 year old Hanwell girl missing for 3 weeks. 271 million

Paragraph 5 - Accuracy of online information. 'Andrew Keen'- there are too many webpages which seem to be created by the activity of nonsense.  Audience dumbed down believe everything they read. Gaza war has been occurring for years but only chosen to show it on the news recently.

Paragraph 6 - Audiences chose what media news they want to consume, Due to social networking sites trending news. Only reading the news that they want to hear.

Paragraph 7 - Audiences are empowered as they can create their own websites and blogs. Audiences dis-empowered- phones being hacked. 
Passive consumers - Hypodermic Needle theory  Active Producers - User Generated Content
