• Gibson Security has developed a website called GS Lookup where people can enter their username and be told if their data was included in the security leak.
• The hackers obtained the information by exploiting a vulnerability in Snapchat's Find Friends interface
• Hackers - "Too reluctant at patching the exploit until they knew it was too late"

The photo-sharing site Snapchat was hit by a cyber attack yesterday which reportedly exposed the usernames and phone numbers of 4.6 million users. The data was posted on a website called SnapchatDB.info, which has since been suspended. The hackers censored the last two digits of the phone numbers "in order to minimise spam and abuse", but offered to disclose the uncensored database "under certain circumstances". In a statement to tech news site TechCrunch, the hackers explained that their motivation behind the attack was to raise public awareness around the issue, and put public pressure on Snapchat to fix the exploit.

I think that the recent hacking has made everybody question if our personal details are safe with these leading social networking sites. Following the Facebook security flaws and concerns people are increasingly worry about their privacy. Other major hacks recently was with games companies Raven, Microsoft, Activision, Sony.

Apple's iPhone-based 'Pay' launches this week

• It uses NFC chips which can communicate securely and wirelessly, and uses the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to authenticate purchases.
• Apple announced the new Pay feature last month when it unveiled its new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets.
• Retail chain Walgreen's says that it will adopt the service on October 18
• Apple has teamed up with MasterCard and Visa to launch the service in the US. 

Apple’s iPhone-based ‘Pay’ will launch this weekend and allow customers in the US to buy goods and services by tapping their new 6 and 6 Plus handsets against a payment terminal – but reports from inside Apple’s headquarters reveal that employees are already using it to buy lunch. A leaked internal memorandum to staff at retail chain Walgreens says that it will adopt the service on October 18. McDonalds, Macy’s and Staples are also known to have signed up to adopt Pay. Owners of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets will be able to use them to buy items from Walgreens, McDonalds and Staples in the US from this weekend, suggest reports - but Apple staff are already using it to buy lunch in their staff canteen.

In my opinion I think that credit cards are less sophisticated than the UK which uses chip-and-PIN technology, experts predicted that gaining market share in Britain would be more difficult. Buying things will be much easier as there is no need to bring your card with you as card details are stored on the phone. A negative factor to this would be that theft percentages will increase dramatically.

'Revenge pornography' could lead to 14 years in jail, say new guidelines

• Laws and child protection legislation which carry maximum sentences of between 10 and 14 years.
• CPS spokesman said: “No one should have to suffer the hurt and humiliation of ‘revenge pornography’ 
• There were 149 allegations of crimes involving revenge pornography during the last two-and-a-half years, according to the eight police forces in England and Wales with data on it.
• Anti-harassment laws and rules governing malicious communications, all of which carry up to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of up to £5,000.
• There were 149 cases over the last two and a half years.

Posting “revenge pornography” online could lead to a jail term of up to 14 years after prosecutors issued tough new guidelines in a bid to secure more convictions. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) signalled a significant change of tactics to address growing outrage about what it described as a “nasty and invasive crime”. There has been mounting pressure for a new law to combat “revenge porn”, which involves publishing intimate photographs or video, some of which may include graphic sexual activity, as retaliation against a former partner. Many offenders publish the images publicly on social media web sites such as Facebook or Twitter to humiliate partners after an acrimonious split.

In my opinion I think that revenge pornography is a breach of a persons privacy rights and should not be allowed to happen. The fact that they are enforcing this greatly now will prevent the supposedly stop the famous celebrity Iggy Azelea's sex tape from being leaked. Recently apple had a hacking done to their iCloud servers

A listicle is a short-form of writing that uses a list as its thematic structure, but is fleshed out with sufficient copy to be published as an article. The listicle was about 29 facts about women in general,

• Women speak about 20,000 words a day. That's 13,000 more than the average man is the opening slide.
• The average amount of time a woman can keep a secret is 47 hours and 15 minutes.

In my opinion I think that listicle dumb down their audience and are catered towards people who have a short attention span. People that like reading quick stuff to entertain themselves and learn cool facts is better than reading a massive article which tends to bore lots of people. They change the way people consume media, the old traditional method of using newspaper to educate yourself about news is the past. Everything has turned digital and are less informative.

Microsoft gets $1bn in Android royalties from Samsung

• Samsung paid Microsoft about $1bn (£626m) last year to use its technology in gadgets running Google's Android
• Licensing agreement generated $1bn
• Microsoft said it had launched the court action to recover about $7m
• A renegotiated license agreement is proposed to happen
• Google's Android is now the world's most popular mobile operating system

The figure is revealed in court documents Microsoft has filed to help legal action taken against Samsung. The case revolves around the licensing agreement that generated the $1bn payment. Samsung made one payment late and has now stopped paying altogether, claiming Microsoft's 2013 acquisition of Nokia had invalidated the agreement. Microsoft has rebuffed this claim, saying the licensing agreement contains "explicit provisions" that allow it to buy other companies and still get cash from Samsung. Legal action over the deal was begun in August 2014 after Samsung was late to make a payment. At the time, Microsoft said it had launched the court action to recover about $7m it had lost in interest payments as a result of the cash arriving late.

I think many users will migrate from apples iPhone in a years time, many people aren't seeing any differences to make them continue with their product each year. On top of the the celebrity nudes leaks have had an impact on iPhones sales and the bending problem. But yet news articles are suggesting the newest phone is the most selling out of all their phones.

A large group of the women whose personal email accounts have been compromised - with the stolen intimate shots of stars including Jennifer Lawrence, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian subsequently disseminated online - are now threatening to sue Google for $100 million, according to a new report. Marty Singer has written a letter to Google about this issue and the statement goes as follows: 'Because the victims are celebrities with valuable publicity rights you do nothing - nothing but collect millions of dollars in advertising revenue - as you seek to capitalize on this scandal rather than quash it,'. 

Hackers supposedly uploaded images of famous stars like Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Hudgens to 4chan and Reddit, but the latter quickly removed them due to its stringent policy on hacked photographs being shared on the site. I think that itself its not entirety the hackers fault, celebrities are already prime targets for hacking and storing nude pictures of themselves on their phone and cloud storage is a stupid move. Celebrities should take into account that technology is evolving everyday and hackers are become more intelligent at breaching security firewalls and gateways. Just last week the hacking crew Lizard Squad hacked into many big companies like Sony, Apple, Microsoft and the US military by overloading and hacking into the servers via DDOS attacks.
